Security in Open Sourcing the Government

The Indian government has made the decision to open source the software it's using for monitoring and tracking the spread of COVID-19 and other future pandemic diseases. This is a necessary step for governments across the world to be more transparent and let the development community expose and address privacy and security issues.
It also provides greater access to data that can be leveraged by citizens to develop their own tools to fight global pandemics.
As we become an increasingly digital society, it is our responsibly as product creators to balance privacy, functionality, and transparency in what we create.
