At Code and Theory, our Quality Assurance Engineers is responsible for performing daily analysis and execution of the test efforts of multiple product releases across several different platforms, providing valuable feedback for developers, and also providing accountability to deliverables. This mid-level position is considered the ‘machinist’ of a test team, providing integral depth to facilitate efficient test execution. QA Engineers also will lead smaller test teams, appropriate to their experience level.

In your first month at Code and Theory, you’ll:

  • Test software over many platforms (Web, Mobile, Tablet) in both manual and automation capacities 
  • Test and validate data for front-end and back-end, primarily within a CMS base 
  • Analyze and identify software defects 
  • Report testing results in detail using bug tracking tools 
  • Track and monitor defects throughout development cycle 
  • Work closely with Engineers and Producers 

In your first year at Code and Theory, you’ll:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans and requirement matrices 
  • Encourage and maintain standards and process for workflow efficiency 
  • Support application deployments 
  • Build comfort with pivoting test capabilities into bespoke application and creative technology builds 
  • Become a contributing member of the QA department's overall vision 
  • Research, present, and implement best practices and cutting edge toolsets 
  • Go beyond the baseline expectation and work to provide valuable insight to developers 1-4 projects on the tester's plate at any one time 
  • Work to provide granular, neutral, and valuable critique for developers to improve their craft 
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously (and at times, under pressure)

To succeed in this role you should have:

3+ years of: 
  • manual testing of progressively more complex web development (including mobile/tablet) projects 
  • documenting and managing defects in specialized software (preference is Atlassian/JIRA, but background in Redmine, FogBugz, YouTrack, Trac, etc.) 
2+ years of:
  • writing test suites/test cases 
  •  agency, development shop, or startup testing experience 
1+ year of:
  • test driven development, whether in a supportive role with development or directly in control of test production 
  • Manipulating and testing CMS, preferably Wordpress, Drupal, Adobe AEM, and Sitecore, as well as design and framing toolsets in an inspection capacity (Invision, Zeplin)
  • Requirements gathering, management, and compilation into valuable testable scenarios 
  • Understanding of database schemas and SQL, and exposure to multiple database types (MySQL, MongoDB) 
  • Exposure to automated testing (Selenium, Gherkin, Behat, Cucumber), versioning systems (Git, Stash Exposure) multiple types of SDLC/STLC (Agile, Kanban, Waterfall), and behavior driven development 

Nice to Haves:

  • 2 + years JavaScript, intended for use in scripting and test automation Android and/or iOS application testing experience
  • Exposure to the following specializations: accessibility testing, security testing,  load/balance testing, database testing, UAT execution and management globalization/localization testing automation testing (not as defined above) user experience testing game theory, etc. 
  • Programming capabilities/background in Computer Science, software engineering, or interactive media educational background 
  • Exposure to IoT and hardware testing, continuous integration, monitoring tools (Jenkins, Airbrake) or Atlassian Cloud administration (JIRA, JIRA Agile, Confluence, Stash, Bamboo) 
  • Interest and motivation to specialize within the testing field SQL queries used within ticket management systems 

QA Engineer applicants must have clear visual acuity (can see at 20/20 vision, with corrective lenses if necessary), are not color-blind, do not have photosensitive seizure sensitivity, and be able to sustain focus for long periods of time. QA Engineers will also be expected to use a computer for the majority of the day. Working conditions are generally in-office and at a desk, however there may be some travel and physical activity involved.
